The 'Program Files' folder and its read-only attribute
Basically, this can be done using something like ... attrib /s | find " R " It will find all files that are just marked as read-only. To find files marked as hidden and read only the " R " becomes " HR " and for those marked as system-hidden-read only, " SHR ", etc. I believe the files marked as 'unmovable' for

What
should the recovery tool do, though? Maybe it would be a good idea to change all backends to store marks. (Except for the read-only backends, of course. The read-only backends could have a file in the home dir, one file per server, which stores the marks.) That ought to make Gnus much more robust.

Making CDR files NOT "Read Only"
If you are not using Explorer to read the files, the file manager may not recognize packet capability and may not let you write to the disc - ie, may regard the files as read-only. For example, Symantec's File Manager will let me change the name on a file marked read-only, but won't let me write to a fixed-length

But I can't actually find any files that are still marked read-only. There are 20000 files in this directory, so I haven't checked them all by hand. What am I missing?

When a message is deleted, moved or marked as read in an OE message file (dbx), then wasted space is generated in that file, and the folder must be compacted to remove that wasted space.
